Earlier this month, students in Digital Media Innovation (DMI) Professor J.J. Sylvia's Issues in Digital Media Innovation course discussed their projects utilizing the 3-D printing process. This course offers students the opportunity to experiment with emerging digital tools while examining their impact on society, industry, and culture. Additionally, students will investigate both the research and career opportunities related to one of more of the pathways offered as part of the Digital Media Innovation major.

Cillea Houghton a writer, storyteller and 2015 Fitchburg State University graduate visited Dr. Robert Carr's Marketing Communication course last week to watch the final presentations on a project she has been working on with the students. The Marketing Communications class assisted Cellia with producing the first issue of the No One Is Listening Journal, website, and marketing plan - which is centered around the theme of peace, in addition to a Pay It Forward challenge that connects to the theme of the issue. No One Is Listening is a new media platform Cillea founded with the mission to connect people across cultures through the power of voice. This will be accomplished through 3 pillars: On the Page (written and print pieces), In the World (live events) and On the Screen (video content).

Yesterday afternoon, Communications Media Professors J.J. Sylvia IV and Kyle Moody moderated yesterday's Digital Media Innovation (DMI) Expo in Percival Hall. Presentations included the history of the Conlon Fine Arts Building and Holmes Dining Commons here on campus, as well as a 3D rendering project of Fitchburg in the 1890's and 2025. The event gave prospective and current students the opportunity to learn about the program, learn about the research and creative process behind their work, and meet faculty and students in DMI.

Students in Communications Media's Professor Charles Roberts' Intermediate Digital Cinema Production course recently learned the ins & outs of creating a dolly sot in the Conlon Studio. Intermediate Digital Cinema Production covers professional production techniques used in modern narrative production environments. In addition to achieving competency in lighting, exposure, composition and framing with video cameras, students master the basics of audio production both on location and in studio environments and the editing of the dramatic narrative.

Students in Communications Media Professor Robert Harris' Intro to Film and Video class learn the process of manually editing 16mm film. Intro to Film & Video is the introductory course in the Film & Video sequence where students are exposed to the basics of production and post-production for both digital and photochemical media. Topics include understanding and using visual language, camera operation, understanding the film and video production process, basic editing, production crew structure and interpersonal communication.
