and Fernando Diaz Morera, along with students Charlie Stevenson and Rohanji (Anji) Novas, presented their research from the Joint Mathematics Meetings in Washington, D.C. Charlie is a veteran, a father, and an IT professional who came back to school and found his path in mathematics. He graduates this May and is now looking at PhD programs. Anji is a first-generation student from the Dominican Republic studying computer science and math. She’s already thinking about her next national conference. These lunch sessions give our Board of Trustees a chance to see the amazing scholarly work of our students.

Students in Andrea Olmstead's Drawing class work on their projects in the Conlon Fine Arts building. This studio course introduces students to the practice of drawing with emphasis on the description of form through means of line, shade, and perspective. Students in Biology and Chemistry Professor Elizabeth DiLoreto's Medical Microbiology Lab perform strep tests in the Antonucci Science Complex. This course serves as an introduction to the biology of major groups of micro-organisms including bacteria, viruses, protozoa, and fungi. Emphasis is placed on their relationship to man as agents of infectious diseases. In the laboratory principles and practices of aseptic techniques and diagnostic identification and culture of disease entities are explored.

Future Falcons joined us at an admitted student open house to see what their life at Fitchburg State could be. The day's program included campus tours, program-specific information sessions and a reception in the Athletics and Recreation Center. After President Donna Hodge welcomed everyone to the reception, with the help of our Drumline, Future Falcons, their families and guests, were able to mingle with a multitude of departments and student groups. The university offers a number of additional visit opportunities, from general tours to specific information sessions geared toward accepted students who are still making their academic decisions. Department, had the honor today to welcome
Hedrick Ellis, Ed.M.
, Director of Academic Technology and an adjunct professor at Endicott College. The presentation, titled Extended Reality Technology in Architecture and Construction, highlighted the application of augmented and virtual reality technologies in architecture and construction management. Our students and faculty had the opportunity to experience augmented reality (AR) via the Wanna Kicks app, and a virtual reality (VR) walkthrough of CAD projects developed by students from another institution.

In a cooperative effort between our Criminal Justice Program and our Housing and Residential Services students in Professor Michael S. McCutcheon's Criminal Investigation course were able to work crime scenes in an unoccupied suite in Aubuchon Hall. In this lab, students use various methods to create blood spatter patterns, then perform blood spatter analysis. Bloodstain Pattern Analysis a forensic discipline that interprets the size, shape, and distribution of bloodstains at a crime scene to reconstruct events, such as identifying the positioning of individuals, weapon type, and mechanism of bloodshed.
