Friday night, the university proudly hosted a historic moment—the inauguration of Chief Steven Giannini as the 19th Chief of Police for the City of Fitchburg and the Fitchburg Police Department. Outgoing Chief Ernest Martineau has served with integrity and dedication. Criminal Justice Professor Dr. David Weiss served as Emcee for the evening which started with welcoming remarks by Fitchburg State University President Donna Hodge , Fitchburg Mayor Samantha Squailia State Senator John Cronin, Fitchburg State University alum State Representative Michael Kushmerek, and Fitchburg State University Police Chief Michael Cloutier spoke to the transition and honored Chief Ernest Martineau.
In addition, Fitchburg City Clerk Joanna Bilotta swore in Officer
Kaddy and K9 Atlas, Officer Daniella Lopez, Officer Michael Faucher, Detective Sergeant Christopher Bellofatto, and Captain Jeffrey Howe, all of whom earned promotions.
