Around Campus - NCLEX Bowl

This afternoon, senior nursing students and their faculty held a unconventional way of studying for the NCLEX exam, The exam developed by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN)to test the competency of nursing school graduates in the U.S. and Canada. This Family Feud style battle was played by teams named The Lifesavers, Cold Breakroom Pizza, Tele-tubies, Kiss Our Assessments, Pickle Party, and the Avengers. Not to be outdone, the nursing faculty had their own team, The Roasted Nightingales - RNs, get it. First up,  Cold Breakroom Pizza vs. Tele-tubies.

Around Campus - Nursing Simulation Laboratory

The saga of Kevin Bell continues. This time, Kevin has an issue in a simulated rehab facility wherein he needed to be transported to the ER - this involved two separate scenarios. Our Nursing Simulation Laboratory assists nursing students in learning critical thinking and clinical judgment skills in preparation for their healthcare careers. The “manikins” act as lifelike patient simulators, wherein instructors provide real-time feedback via a control center, giving students as close to a hospital simulation as possible. Fellow students watch as their classmates work through the simulation.

The “manikins” act as lifelike patient simulators, wherein instructors provide real-time feedback via a control center, giving students as close to a hospital simulation as possible. Fellow students watch as their classmates work through the simulation. In this scenario, Kevin has obstructive kidney stones. After the simulation, the class meets to discuss the experience.

Health Sciences Career Fair

This afternoon, the university's Career Services and Advising Center sponsored a Health Sciences career fair in the Hammond Main Lounge. The program was open to all students in all majors, with a focus on positions in; nursing, biology, chemistry, and exercise and sports science.

Nursing Program 2nd Annual White Coat Ceremony

The Fitchburg State University Nursing Program held its Second Annual White Coat Ceremony in Kent Hall this afternoon. After welcome remarks from Nursing Department Acting Chair Dr. Tara Mariolis, President Richard Lapidus, and Dean of Health and Natural Sciences Dr. Jennifer Hanselman, students watched an inspirational video greeting from Rear Admiral Aisha K. Mix, assistant surgeon general and chief nurse officer of the United States Public Health Service.
Prior to the donning of the white coats, student speaker, Madison Waterson from the Class of 2024, offered a few words to this year's white coat recipients, following, coats were presented by members of the Nursing Program faculty. After coat presentations, Nursing Professor Arlana Arsenault administered the White Coat Ceremony Oath.

When Majors Interface - Nursing & Communications Media

Theater Concentration, Communications Media student Rebecca Joseph, who recently played Ruth Younger in the university's production of  A Raisin in the Sun, used her talents in our Nursing Simulation Laboratory where she played a patient. After getting her characters backstory, the scene began with Rebecca in the Clinic waiting room to be called by a team of Nursing Program students who were unaware of her ascribed condition.
