Earlier this week, as part of Women's History Month, members of the Fitchburg State University community gathered to discuss the four most remembered and acclaimed of Maya Angelou's poems "Phenomenal Women", "Still I Rise", "Weekend Glory", and "Our Grandmothers". These poems celebrate women with a majesty that has inspired and touched the hearts of millions.

Police Program Draws International Attention

Fitchburg State University welcomed a delegation from the nation of Moldova to campus this week to demonstrate its groundbreaking police program, whose graduates complete two academic degrees and full municipal police academy training in the span of five years.

University President Richard S. Lapidus, Fitchburg Police Chief Ernest F. Martineau and Fitchburg State Academy Director Lisa Lane McCarty outlined the program for the delegation, including police and education leaders from the Eastern European nation.

ARTeries Opening Reception

ARTeries is Fitchburg State University Art Department’s annual juried exhibition 
that showcases the strongest original student work in drawing, painting, sculpture, and mixed-media art. ARTeries provides an opportunity for the university community to celebrate the artistic talents of Fitchburg State students. Student works will be on display from until  April 20, 2023. The Center for Italian Culture - Showing of Stracci

The Center for Italian Culture at Fitchburg State University continued its series on the “Made in Italy” brand this month this afternoon with a screening of the documentary film Stracci in Ellis White Lecture Hall in Hammond Hall. The documentary discusses the sustainability of fashion by looking at it through the eyes of those who have always recycled used clothes and transformed them into raw materials. A journey that starts from Prato, the world capital of recycled wool, and goes around the world, to discover the impact on the planet of the excessive consumption to which the world of fashion has educated us.

Around Campus - Staff Appreciation

President Lapidus joined staff this morning at the North Street Bistro for the first of three Staff Appreciation events, also held simultaneously at the McKay Café. Staff were treated to a beverage, and a snack, with their tickets entered into a prize raffle. The other appreciation dates are, April 12, and May 4, 2023.

FATV - Barbara & You

Sales Management Course - Guest Speaker

Business Administration students exploring sales management with Associate Professor John Lohmann got a master class in sales techniques Thursday with guest speaker Eric Lipsitt, president of Computrition. Lipsitt’s company works with hospitals to automate food and nutrition services, ensuring patients receive appropriate meals.

Lipsitt - who has known Professor Lohmann since their own college days - discussed the foundational importance of tracking customer relationship management and continued self-assessment. “If you don’t measure it, it doesn’t get done,” Lipsitt said. “You continually have to reassess.”

He also told the students that their educational training would not cease when they completed their degrees. “Learning doesn’t stop when you leave here,” he said. “You’re still going to go to conferences and read books.”
