With technology constantly changing, schools are investing in technology to help improve and enhance student achievement. And with the common core standards, educators need to ensure that students can demonstrate what they know, and not just say they know. When implemented properly, technology can produce significant gains by boosting engagement with interactive learning especially with at-risk students.

Recent graduate, Kristin King has service in her blood. Her grandfather served in the U.S. Army and her uncle in the U.S. Air Force. Feeling the call to serve, Kristin enlisted in the Army at the age of 17. The first airplane trip of her life was to go to basic training in South Carolina. Kristin was deployed to Iraq, where she managed property and supplies in the service of the American war effort.

At first, the transition to college life was challenging. The freedom and self-direction of a student was a far cry from the rigid structure experienced by a soldier. Kristin was also several years older than most of her peers in the classroom, creating a further sense of distance. But Kristin doesn’t give up.

The value and importance of vocational education and training is obvious; without skilled tradespeople, the whole country would come to a grinding halt. Mechanics, carpenters, plumbers, chefs, electricians, plasterers, dental hygienists – you name it – all play an essential role in the economy. So do those who teach the trades within the public schools.

Looking for a unique history class? The Contemporary Arab World course introduces students to the current realities of this important part of the world and helps them understand the causes behind them. 

Taking this class will enable you to understand the region and the US involvement in it.  Furthermore, because of its geographic importance, its size, and its resources, the Arab world plays an important role in international affairs and economics.
