How many credits can I transfer?
Students may transfer a maximum of:

  • 75 credits from a regionally accredited 2-year institution
  • 90 credits from a regionally accredited 4-year institution
Can I apply my professional work experience into college credit?
Yes, students may apply to complete the Life Experience Credit Award Program (LECAP). Through a series of professional portfolios students may apply for up to 30 college credits. Visit our website for more details.

Do you accept CLEP exams for credit?
Yes, students may apply up to 60 credits earned by taking the CLEP (College-Level Examination Program) exams. These would count as transfer credits, toward the maximum transfer credit cap. CLEP exams are a great way to earn credit, saving time and money.

How do I know what courses have transferred and what courses I still need to complete?
Transfer credit decisions are made after an application becomes complete and is reviewed for admission. Students will be emailed a list of transferred credits from the Registrar’s Office after an offer of admission is made.

Admitted students will be assigned to a program advisor in the academic department. Students will also have access to the Degree Works system, a degree auditing tool to allow you to keep track of your degree requirements on your own time.

What is your price per credit?
Undergraduate credits through Continuing Education (CE) or Evening Division are currently priced at $308 per credit, which covers tuition and fees, books are a separate cost.*

What is LA&S?
LA&S courses are Liberal Arts and Sciences. These include courses in English, History, Math, Science and Art, Music, Economics, Political Science, Language, Psychology, and Sociology.

I’m interested in completing the IDIS program with a minor in Art/Art History, can I do this 100% online?
This minor requires one on campus, evening studio art course. This may be taken in transfer, if students do not live nearby.

How does online learning work?
Many online courses are asynchronous, meaning that you don’t have to log in at a certain day or time as long as you’re meeting the daily and weekly goals set by your instructor. Students should expect at least 1 hour of instruction per week for every credit hour earned, and 2 hours of assignments for every 1 hour of instruction. This means students should expect a commitment of at least 9 hours per week per course, and more during accelerated courses of 3-7 weeks in length. Online learning requires good time management and self-discipline to stay on track with your assignments. It's very convenient, but just like any other college course, it's not easy.

What is the application deadline?
Fitchburg State offers rolling admission which means you may apply at any time prior to the start of the semester. We recommend aiming for December 1 for a spring application, or August 1 for a fall application.

How do I apply for financial aid?
To apply for financial aid submit the FAFSA application. Our school code is 002184. You must be admitted into a degree program to be awarded financial aid.

What is the subject of the required admission essay?
Students should outline the reason why they’re applying to the bachelor degree program and career goals. This essay should be 300 words, or one page in length.

How will I know if my application is complete?
Once you submit an application online, you may check the status through the application portal. We recommend you check the status once or twice a week as documents take one to three business days to process once received.

Do you offer a payment plan?
Yes, Continuing Education students may enroll in the payment plan for fall or spring classes. Payments are interest-free as long as they’re made on time. Visit our website for more information.

Do I have to take any tests to apply to the program?
Students who graduated from high school less than three years ago need to submit an SAT score as part of the application process. A math placement exam is required to enroll in college level math courses.
