As part of the GCE blog's "Our Faculty" series, we introduce Dr. Nancy Murray, associate professor and graduate program chair of the special education moderate disabilities program and co-chair of the behavior analyst graduate certificate program.

What is your educational background, and what certifications do you have relevant to your program?

I have a strong background in teaching children with various special needs from grades Prek-22. This includes students with moderate and severe disabilities.

I've been an autism specialist for various districts and have continued to consult for families and districts around programming and behavioral issues for children with emotional/behavioral, and autism spectrum disorders. 

I completed a trio of degrees including a bachelor of science, master of arts in education, and education specialist degrees at the University of Florida. I received my doctoral degree, from the University at Buffalo, SUNY, specializing in Counseling Psychology. 

Although I began my career as a physical therapist, I soon realized that my heart was in teaching.  I began by teaching students with severe disabilities, and

What is your educational background, and what certifications do you have relevant to your program?

I completed both my bachelor of science and my master of education in special education. My doctoral degree, from UMASS at Amherst, is in curriculum and instruction. I am currently the graduate program chair for the master of education in curriculum and technology.
