What is your educational background, and what certifications do you have relevant to your program?
I completed both my bachelor of science and my master of education in special education. My doctoral degree, from UMASS at Amherst, is in curriculum and instruction. I am currently the graduate program chair for the master of education in curriculum and technology.
How long have you been teaching at Fitchburg State University?
I have worked at the university for over 30 years.
Do you have a favorite/entertaining teaching moment, and if so, what is it?
I think most teachers enter the profession with the hope of making a difference in their students’ lives. My favorite moments are when I hear from students that I have done just that for them. It doesn’t happen every time, but when it does, it is so gratifying.

What career opportunities are available to students who complete your program?
Teachers who complete this program are often tapped for leadership roles in their school/district.
Is there any advice that you normally provide to prospective students?
Think about what aspects of teaching you find most challenging. Work with your advisor to develop a plan of study that will meet your needs! And once you complete your degree, keep on learning! Good teachers are “green and growing,” no matter how many years they have been in the field.
