Do you teach history or are you just interested in learning about genocide in world history?

This summer Fitchburg State is offering an online/hybrid course, Genocide in World History, which provides students with a strong understanding of the key elements of the genocide that was emerging in 1941, the Holocaust, and of the many other genocides before and after the Second World War.

Discussions will include examples of genocide, including the Armenian Genocide, the Cambodian Genocide, and the Rwandan Genocide.  We'll also analyze the definition of genocide to look at other possible cases, including early examples of genocide, colonial and imperial genocides and several recent examples of genocide.

What's in it for you? Students will gain knowledge of the:

  • causes of genocide
  • methods of genocide
  • responses to genocide

The professor will also devote attention to questions about how the topic of genocide can be taught, making this an ideal class for:

  • teachers interested in integrating genocide into classes or in further developing existing classes
  • students who want to expand their knowledge of the subject of genocide to encompass many examples
  • students interested in a comparative approach

The course begins on July 7. Register by June 25 to avoid the $50 registration fee.
