Career Services and Advising Center - Engineering Employer Roundtable

Earlier today, the Career Services and Advising Center and the Engineering Technology Department held a Lunch & Learn Engineering Technology Employer Roundtable event. Representatives from Columbia, Jabil, Nypromold, and [re}archetect  were on hand to network with students in Conlon Hall. Networking events serve as an excellent opportunity for our students to connect with potential employers, learn about different career paths, and gain valuable insights into the current job market.

Yesterday afternoon, the Career Services and Advising Center held an  Exploration Fair in the Hammond Main Lounge.  Fitchburg State University's School of Graduate, Online and Continuing Education (SGOCE) along with local university's graduate school programs, provided this as opportunity for schools to meet the talented students at Fitchburg State University, and connect with potential graduate students. This was an opportunity for our students to learn about graduate school programs, and receive information about the application process.

Around Campus - Dress Like Peter Day!

surprised Assistant Dean of Enrollment Peter August for his birthday with a Dress Like Petr Day! Staff donned beards, suspenders, and bracelets to copy Peter's distinctive look. The also carried the ever-present mug of tea and a book to pay tribute to the published author.

Computer science and IT industries are undergoing a rapid transformation, with new emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and data science. Higher education institutions must adapt curricula to meet industry demands while fostering practical skills through hands-on training and real-world exposure. As tuition costs increase, it becomes more difficult to obtain a high-quality education. Industry-academia relationships are also important in matching programs with market needs and improving the employability of graduates. The need for easily accessible programs that prepare students to compete in the job market and supported by the fact that the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects a 15 percent growth in the Computer and IT jobs market between 2021 and 2031. 

Fitchburg State University is addressing these challenges by providing industry-aligned computer science and IT education. Founded in 1894 in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, the university has evolved from a teacher-training school to a full-fledged public university with an enrollment of approximately 6,100 students. The department hosts the Computer Science program of the school, which dates back to the 1970s and contains Bachelor of Science degrees in Computer Science and Computer Information Systems, both accredited by the ABET Computing Accreditation Commission, as well as a Master of Science in Computer Science offered both on campus and online with tracks in Data Science and Cybersecurity.

Center for Professional Studies' Advanced Placement Summer Institutes (APSI) - AP Biology

The Fitchburg State University Center for Professional StudiesAdvanced Placement Summer Institutes (APSI) first week is in full swing. In the AP Biology track, High School Teachers are conducting a week full of experiments to bring back to their classrooms. The APSI are designed to support all aspects of AP courses, including AP methodology, curriculum, class assignments and examinations as well as providing strategies for teaching AP courses.

Rolling admissions: What it is and how you can benefit from it!

Fitchburg State University accepts graduate applications on a rolling basis; meaning, as your application becomes complete, it is forwarded for a review.  The turnaround time for a decision is approximately 2 weeks from the time the application becomes complete.  The sooner your application becomes complete, the sooner you will have your decision.  Also, to make things even easier for you, you can check the status of your application online!
