  • Your advisor can help you realize your career goals by designing a course of study you can prepare for.
  • They may know alumni or members of the community you can network with to develop your professional life.
  • If a course you're interested in is not being offered when you need it, your advisor may be be able to arrange an independent study.
  • Opportunities for events such as internships or conferences are always coming up. If your advisor knows what you're working on and interested in, they can keep you in mind for these resume building events.
  • You will be encouraged to start thinking about a thesis or a practicum long before you complete all required coursework. Being in contact with your advisor can help provide the needed guidance to figure out which path is best for you.

There are a myriad of reasons why having a strong relationship with your advisor is a good thing.  Consider contacting your advisor today!
