You're already an outstanding LPN in your field, but are you ready for more?
There are four main advantages to being an RN versus an LPN:- You'll have the credentials to earn more money.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), RNs make $67,490 annually compared to LPNs $43,170. That's almost $25,000 more a year! - RNs have long term job security.
RNs have the highest employment in healthcare occupations. According to the BLS, 61% of RNs work in hospitals compared to only 17% of LPNs. - There are more options for positions and specializations.
RNs can tailor their job to match their skills and interests as they progress in their career, while LPNs have less opportunity for specialization and advancement because they will always work under the supervision of other nurses. - RNs have more opportunities for professional advancement.
RNs can choose to advance their education even further by earning a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN).This opens the door to becoming a nurse educator or nurse practitioner. LPNs have a longer path toward more advancement considering they’ll need to first go back to school to become an RN.
