Are you interested in Fitchburg State's education programs? As part of the GCE blog's "Our Faculty" series, we introduce Teacher in Residence and Fitchburg State alum, Professor Stephen Celona.
After graduating in 1991 with a bachelor of science degree, I went on to serve many different roles in the field of education. Those roles have included many different teaching experiences, as well as administrative roles later on in my career.
Although I continued my education, completing my graduate degree elsewhere in 2001, I truly believe that it was my undergraduate time at Fitchburg State that instilled in me the content and strategies needed to be a knowledgeable, skillful, ethical, and caring educator.
In the fall of 2007, an opportunity arose to return to Fitchburg State University and teach as adjunct faculty. I’ve taught a class almost every semester since. I've taught two classes, Secondary Programs for Adolescents with Disabilities and Introduction to Secondary Education.
Returning to Fitchburg State has been a wonderful homecoming. It has given me the opportunity to work with so many people who are beginning their careers as educators.
I really enjoy seeing former students long after the class has ended. I'm always interested in catching up with them and learning what they are doing and accomplishing after they get out of school. When I run into a former student I believe it's important to let them know that I remember them and that I'm interested in what they are up to.
My experience has also provided me a chance to give back just a little bit of all that Fitchburg State has given me.
