Thanks to guest blogger and OneCard Office student employee, Izzy, we're going to learn all about the many uses of and how to obtain your Fitchburg State OneCard. Thank you, Izzy!
The OneCard is the most versatile and useful tool you will obtain as a student here at Fitchburg State University. Apart from being your official form of identification, it can be used for many other university services. The OneCard is your library card, print and scanning card, Recreation Center pass, key to some labs and classrooms, campus event access, and has a stored value account known as Fitchburg Gold.
So you may have a few questions. Where do I get one? Are there any other benefits to having this card? Can I use it anywhere else other than on campus?
To get the ball rolling let’s talk about where you can obtain a OneCard. GCE students can have their picture taken for the OneCard either at the GCE orientation, or during the first week of classes of the fall and spring semesters at the McKay building C-wing foyer between 4 and 6pm. If for any reason you can’t make it to either of those events, just drop by our office located in the Anthony building, room 118. We are open Monday thru Friday 8am-6pm the first two weeks of the fall and spring semester, and 8am-5pm the remainder of the year.
So great, now you have a OneCard, but what does it do? The answer is A LOT! It serves as your basic student ID, gains you access to the Athletic center, free bus fare on the local MART system, can be loaded with money to use at the vending machines and café’s around campus. Did I mention discounts? You can obtain discounts from over seventy local area businesses. These discounts include restaurants, entertainment, services, and more!
You can enjoy these discounts, and many more!
- 20% off your bill at Ixtapa Mexican Restaurant
- get a free sandwich with purchase of a large fry and drink at Burger King
- 10% off any purchase or a free donut at our local Dunkin Donuts (my personal favorite)
- enjoy $1 off your ticket price at Cinema World
- check out the Fitchburg Art museum where they offer students free admission
- golf fans can enjoy a free small basket of balls with the purchase of a large basket at Lakeview Golf center. If you’re up for 9 holes you can play a round for $12 during the week and $14 on weekends just by showing your OneCard at Settler’s Crossing in Lunenburg.
There are also some great deals at local salons, local auto garages, and for finals week you can unwind with discounts at a few different local spas.
