NACE Nursing Exam FAQs for LPN applicants

Congratulations on your decision to continue your nursing career by applying to the LPN to BS in Nursing Bridge program at Fitchburg State University. Now it’s time to get started on the NLN NACE I PN-RN exams. Fall exam dates are now posted on the website, with the first testing dates offered in September.

How do I prepare for the NACE exams?

  1. Download the NLN Information Bulletin/”Study Guide” (PDF)

  2. Read the NLN Information Sheet (PDF)

  3. Select your test date

  4. Create your account at nlnonlinetesting.org to register and complete payment for the computerized exams. Please note the NLN closes registration 5 days prior to testing.

  5. Borrow PN textbooks at the Fitchburg State Library to prepare for the exam.


Did you know, upon successful completion of all exams and admission to the LPN to BS in Nursing Bridge program at Fitchburg State University, the LPN will be awarded 18 transfer credits?

How much do the exams cost?

  • Foundations of Nursing $57

  • Nursing Care of the Childbearing Family $32

  • Nursing Care of the Child $32

What are the minimum decision scores?

  • Foundations of Nursing – Score of greater than or equal to 71

  • Nursing Care of the Childbearing Family – Score of greater than or equal to 62

  • Nursing Care of the Child – Score of greater than or equal to 62

How do I get my scores to Fitchburg State?

When taking the exams, you can indicate where the scores should be sent. Have them sent to Fitchburg State University and the scores will be sent directly to our Nursing Department from their site and entered into our system.

What if I don’t pass the first time?

To obtain successful scores, LPN’s may take each exam two times, if necessary, to earn passing scores for the 2016 admission cycle. Successful exam scores are applicable for use in the admission process up to 18 months after they are completed.

Complete applications and decision scores on NLN exams must be received in the Admissions Office by January 1, 2016.
