Get started this summer on the path to becoming a school administrator

Posted by Andy Cunningham on May 13, 2019 at 3:27 PM

If you are interested in becoming an effective school leader our Educational Leadership and Management (EDLM) programs can help you achieve this goal.  We have a Master of Education (M.Ed.) in both School Principal and Supervisor/Director, as well as a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies (CAGS). Courses are now offered in 7-week terms, a low-residency hybrid model, with one or two Saturday meetings for select classes.

edlm2We will be starting a new cohort in Summer Session A (May 28 - June 28) with 60197 EDLM 8023 Principles for Success of Effective Administrators. This course will be designed to give you an overview of program expectations and what it will take to be an effective and impactful school administrator. By starting this summer you will be able to ensure the ability to graduate in the spring of 2021. The second course in the sequence would be 60197 EDLM 8029 Instructional and Curriculum Leadership and Evaluation, in Summer Session B (July 8 - August 9).

This pathway may also be appropriate if you have only taken a couple of classes so far. For those of you that wish to take a bit longer to complete your coursework you can also feel free to sign up for classes at your own pace. (There is a 6-year time limit for completion).

If you have any questions about the courses or a pathway to graduation, please feel free to contact the program chair, Dr. Phillip Saisa at psaisa@fitchburgstate.edu.

Register for Classes – register by May 16 for Summer A, and by June 27 for Summer B, and we’ll waive the $50 registration fee! Payment is due at the time of registration.

Please note that graduate students may take up to 12 credits prior to admission into a program, but no more than 12.

Important Note: MA Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) has established two new principal licensure levels, so it is no longer PreK-6, 5-8, and 9-12. The two new levels are PreK-8 and 5-12. You will need to choose one of these licensure options for the program.
