Simulation Training for Educators

Early this week, a small group of Education Majors were immersed in a Mursion virtual reality simulation training session at the McKay Campus School. In this particular scenario, students worked with virtual parents and grandparents, as if they were having a 1:1 session, discussing their student's success or lack thereof. The experience was quite realistic with one student saying "I'm sweating" after their session. This is just one of the many tools that Fitchburg State University  uses to aid their Education students in mastering instructional moves, and in fostering social emotional learning.

Future Educator Academy - Badge Sessions

Recently, Lourdes Ramirez, coordinator of field placements, partnerships and recruitment for Fitchburg State’s School of Education welcomed a cohort of local high school students enrolled in The Future Educator Academy program to campus for a day of programming. Students completed a badge focused on Supporting Mental Wellness in the Classroom, Working with Students Who are Underserved, Traditionally Marginalized, and Disenfranchised, and a badge on performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to adults and infants.

Fitchburg State University Police Program ROC - MI Training

This morning, the 5th  Fitchburg State University Police Program's   Recruit Officer Course  (ROC)  continued their coursework entitled Working with Persons with Mental Illness. Here, Instructors Retired Detective Bobby Wile and Clinician Lori Myles shared personal stories and tops on self care to deal with the stress of police work.

The APSI are designed to support all aspects of AP courses, including AP methodology, curriculum, class assignments and examinations as well as providing strategies for teaching AP courses. Art & Design Educators spent the week long program in a combination of lecture, projects, and discussion to improve their teaching skills.

Around Campus - MWCC UBMS Capture the Flag

This afternoon, students enrolled in the  Mount Wachusett Community College (MWCC) Upward Bound Math & Science (UBMS) Summer Academy, played a game of Capture the Flag in the Fitchburg State University quad. Fitchburg State University Campus is hosting the program which is administered by MWCC to serve high school students from Athol, Winchendon, and Gardner to prepare them for college and STEM careers.

Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) Training on Campus

The Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) held a three hour interactive course in Basic Shelter Operations (BSO) here on the Fitchburg State University campus today. This course, led by Allen R. Phillips,  provided a high-level introduction to basic shelter operations, and was developed in collaboration with MEMA, MA Department of Public Health, DelValle Institute, American Red Cross, Salvation Army, and the Western Region Homeland Security Council to provide a common vision and guiding principles to improve shelter coordination, support, and information sharing across Massachusetts.

AXON Roadshow at Wallace Civic Center

Martineau stopped by the Wallace Civic Center this morning for the AXON Roadshow to learn about cutting edge products in the field of protection. They, along with students in our Fitchburg State University Police Program's Recruit Officer Course (ROC) got a chance to try virtual reality training, fire off the latest in taser technology, drone piloting, and so much more.
