Simulation Training for Educators

Early this week, a small group of Education Majors were immersed in a Mursion virtual reality simulation training session at the McKay Campus School. In this particular scenario, students worked with virtual parents and grandparents, as if they were having a 1:1 session, discussing their student's success or lack thereof. The experience was quite realistic with one student saying "I'm sweating" after their session. This is just one of the many tools that Fitchburg State University  uses to aid their Education students in mastering instructional moves, and in fostering social emotional learning.

Future Educator Academy - Badge Sessions

Recently, Lourdes Ramirez, coordinator of field placements, partnerships and recruitment for Fitchburg State’s School of Education welcomed a cohort of local high school students enrolled in The Future Educator Academy program to campus for a day of programming. Students completed a badge focused on Supporting Mental Wellness in the Classroom, Working with Students Who are Underserved, Traditionally Marginalized, and Disenfranchised, and a badge on performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to adults and infants.

Fitchburg State University Police Program ROC - MI Training

This morning, the 5th  Fitchburg State University Police Program's   Recruit Officer Course  (ROC)  continued their coursework entitled Working with Persons with Mental Illness. Here, Instructors Retired Detective Bobby Wile and Clinician Lori Myles shared personal stories and tops on self care to deal with the stress of police work.

Student Spotlight - Cameron Sousa

Here, We Soar! Do you want to see how student Cameron Sousa soars?

Student Spotlight! Cameron Sousa of Hudson is majoring in Engineering Technology with a concentration in construction management.

Sousa has been the president of the university chapter of the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) Chapter for the past year. This chapter is all about building relationships with industry professionals, getting knowledge and insight from experts, attending professional meetings and site visits, and exploring opportunities for internships and jobs. Students interested in joining should contact Cameron at csousa11@student.fitchburgstate.edu. As chapter president, his duties include running workshops and bringing employers to classes to speak.

He also tells Fitchburg State's story as part of the university's Hometown High program, in which he visits local high schools to talk about the construction management program with prospective students.
