How Fitchburg State's Online MBA let a recent graduate get the job she wanted

Even though Shannon Frechette ‘22 is from Suffield, Connecticut, she chose to attend Fitchburg State. Why? Because of our online MBA's flexibility, which allowed her the ability to also work part-time.

After recently graduating with her MBA in Marketing, she's now the Assistant Marketing Manager with Hampton Coliseum/Hampton Arts.

The classes offered and the opportunity to concentrate in marketing also played a role in my decision to attend, as well as affordability," said Frechette.

Even though it was an online program, Frechette connected and interacted with other students through the discussion board posts in her classes.

Frechette highly recommends this program to prospective students. “The emphasis on writing was what I liked most about the MBA program because it allowed me to think critically and express my thoughts on certain topics rather than memorize a specific answer or formula to a question.”

In her opinion, joining the MBA program gave her an edge over other candidates that applied for the same position. For example, the program's use of classes that developed real world experience (like Integrated Marketing Communications, which was Frechette's favorite) helped her with a greater understanding of advertising, and also how to better identify and reach your audience.

It's Frechette's five-year plan to continue her marketing career in the entertainment industry.

“My advice for future students is to manage their time and prioritize assignments that are due first in order to avoid feeling overwhelmed.”

She added that her advice for students joining the MBA program is, “read the syllabus thoroughly and familiarize themselves with any new writing formats upfront because it will help to avoid having to go back and start from the beginning.”

Frechette said that she's very grateful for Fitchburg State, and for the knowledge she's gained from both her classes and professors.
