  1. How much time will it take to graduate?

The LPN to B.S. in Nursing Bridge Program is a three year undergraduate degree, with courses offered during the fall, spring and summer semesters. This program begins every fall.

The first year curriculum of liberal arts and sciences (LA&S) must be completed in the first year of study.

 

  1. Will Fitchburg State’s Nursing Department place me in a clinical setting, and, if so, where?

Yes, the department will place you in clinical rotations. Previous clinical sites have included: UMASS Worcester, Health Alliance, Heywood, Marlborough Hospital and MetroWest. These placements are subject to change.

 

  1. Which NACE exams do I need to take and where can I take them?

NACE exams are offered on campus. Here are the Winter 2018 test dates:

  1. May I transfer credits from any additional courses or only the 18 credits from the NACE exam?

Undergraduate students may transfer in 42 additional credits from a regionally accredited two year institution or 57 additional credits from a regionally accredited four year institution.*

 

  1. May I enroll in the program part-time?

Students must complete the LPN to B.S. in Nursing curriculum in three years. The second and third year curriculum requires a minimum of seven to 12 credits each semester.

 

  1. Does Career Counseling assist you in finding a job upon graduation?

Undergraduate students are offered the following services:

  • Career counseling
  • Resume critique
  • Cover letter critique
  • Job search strategies
  • Interview skills
  • Mock interviews
  • Transitional/Career counseling

 

  1. What prerequisite courses do I need to take before applying for admission?

Fitchburg State doesn’t require a prescribed list of prerequisites for admission into the LPN to B.S. in Nursing Bridge program. Some suggested courses that you could take prior to the program are:

  • Writing I and II
  • Anatomy and Physiology I and II
  • General Psychology
  • Intro to Sociology
  • Statistics
  • U.S. History or World History
  • Literature
  • Chemistry for Health Sciences (not General Chemistry). We recommend consulting with Admissions prior to enrolling in a similar course**
  1. Can I be accepted into the program if I am not an LPN?

No, you must hold a current PN license in good standing to complete an application to this program.

 

  1. Do you offer a payment plan?

Yes, a payment plan is available for fall and spring Graduate and Continuing Education courses. Please visit our website for more information.

 

  1. I want to start classes in Spring 2018. What courses may I take?
    The following courses are available online and will take place January 22 through May 14, 2018.
  • ENGL 1200 Writing II
  • PSY 1100 Introduction to Psychological Sciences
  • SOC 1100 Introduction to Sociology
  • PHIL 2001 Medical Ethics
  • PHIL 2600 Philosophy of Human Nature

 

  1. When is the application priority deadline?

Admission into this program is competitive. January 1 is the priority deadline. Don’t forget to submit your application by December 28, 2017 to receive the application fee waiver for attending this webinar.

 

  1. What is considered a full time schedule for the second and third years of the program?

Students will complete a minimum of seven to 12 credits during each semester, including fall, spring and summer sessions.

 

  1. May I work while I'm enrolled in the program?

At certain times during the program you may work, but it is not recommended once you enter into the advanced level nursing courses. We always suggest speaking with the program advisor if this is a concern.

 

  1. I have already met the year one prerequisites. May I start at the year two point with nursing courses?

Absolutely, but this will depend on whether there are seats available for these classes.  This information will not be known until May.

 

  1. After graduation from LPN school, do I have to work for a year prior to applying for the RN program?

A student must be a licensed PN (LPN) at the time of application review. Professional experience as a LPN is not required, although, it is recommended.

 

  1. I've been an LPN for a while and I don't have the LPN faculty to write a recommendation letter. Is there someone else I may ask for a recommendation?

Although we would prefer a faculty member to submit your reference, we will accept another professional reference as a replacement.

 

  1. Is there a timeline for acceptance of transfer science credits?

We do not necessarily have an expiration date for transfer credit eligibility. Courses are reviewed on a case-by-case basis upon admission into a program.

 

  1. How many students have graduated from this program since it began?

Fitchburg State has graduated 46 students since the program launched in 2012.

 

  1. Does your University offer academic assistance and accommodations for students?

Yes, Fitchburg State has a large network of services for students, including the Career Counseling and Advising Center, Tutor Center and Disabilities Services.

*All transfer credit decisions are made upon admission to the University by the registrar.
**Completing coursework at Fitchburg State or another regionally accredited institution prior to applying does not guarantee admission into the bridge program.
