Top 5 reasons to register early

Posted by Kelly Norris on November 15, 2017 at 10:02 AM

Have you ever heard the saying “the early bird gets the worm?" Well it’s true for course registration too! Freddie-1Students who register for courses early receive the most benefits.

Whether you’re looking to accelerate your degree, take a course for professional development, or take a class prior to applying to a program, it’s important to get an early start. With a busy schedule including working full time, children and family responsibilities, students often find that careful planning for all aspects of life is crucial.Register today
Here are the top five reasons to register early for your winter and spring courses:

#1 - Better course selection

Even if you feel that Fitchburg State gives you the personalized attention you need to succeed, you are not the only person taking classes with us. Other people have the nerve of wanting to take some of the same classes that you want to take! And, once courses fill up, you're potentially looking at another semester or even a year until you can take the courses you need.

Beat the rush! Register today!

(If, unfortunately, the class you're interested in is full, call the Registrar’s Office at 978-665-4196 to add your name to a waitlist.)

#2 - Plan your schedule two months in advance

crystal ballWouldn't it be nice to know your future? Where you'll be in two months, for example?

Registering early for courses lets you lock in your schedule for work and family, and is much more powerful and reliable than tea leaves or crystal balls.

What about the weather? Who can predict that? You can limit your commute by taking an online or hybrid class, and winter session courses are already offered 100% online.

#3 - Save money by avoiding the $50 registration fee

Should this have been reason #1? Who doesn't need extra money?

That's like a dinner out at a nice place, or 50 fast food burgers. We don't judge.

Just be sure that you register by December 14 for winter courses or January 11 for spring courses.

#4 - Take advantage of the payment plan

dollar bill When you're talking about paying a bill, having to pay ALL of it isn't nearly as nice as having to pay only SOME of it.

If you register before January 1, you can split your bill for spring into four separate installments, and take advantage of our interest free payments!

Unless, of course, you just have all of that money sitting around. If that's the case, our Alumni Association is going to love you.

Note: The payment plan is available for spring, not winter session.

#5 - No course registrations = No class

Nothing is more frustrating than having the course that you need get cancelled. (Okay... that's not exactly true, but it IS annoying.)

We run courses based on current enrollments, and if there aren't enough students in a course about one week before the start date the decision to cancel is made so students can seek an alternative.

If you (and enough other students) register for a course early, chances are we'll run the course. Simple as that.

Remember: we're Falcons... don't be the worm!
